The Role

We’re looking for an AI Automation Engineer (Backend / Platform) to own the system that orchestrates our AI models and turns their outputs into reliable product decisions.

While our AI/ML engineers focus on the model layer, you’ll own the infrastructure around those models: backend services, queues, workflows, databases, integrations, reliability, and observability.

This is not a ticket-queue role. You’ll have real ownership of a critical layer of the platform and help determine how our AI systems operate reliably in production.

Day-to-Day Work

• Build and maintain the backend systems that orchestrate AI/ML models and transform model outputs into product decisions.
• Develop production services using TypeScript and Node.js.
• Design and operate asynchronous and queue-based workflows.
• Implement robust patterns for retries with backoff, idempotency, dead-letter handling, replays, and backfills.
• Work extensively with Postgres and Supabase, including schema design, migrations, query performance, and multi-tenant architecture.
• Connect models with APIs, data pipelines, databases, and product workflows.
• Build systems that can reliably handle failures and recover without compromising data or decisions.
• Implement structured logging, metrics, event tracing, and failure classification.
• Monitor production workflows and continuously improve reliability and performance.
• Build and maintain internal and partner-facing APIs when needed.
• Collaborate directly with the founders, AI/ML engineers, and product team on architecture and technical priorities.
• Take systems from initial architecture through deployment, monitoring, debugging, and continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of backend or platform engineering experience.
• Strong production experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
• Deep understanding of asynchronous and queue-based architectures.
• Hands-on experience with job queues, retries, idempotency, dead-letter handling, replays, and backfills.
• Strong Postgres knowledge, including schema design, migrations, and query performance.
• Experience with Supabase or similar platforms.
• Strong understanding of reliability and observability in production systems.
• Experience with structured logging, metrics, tracing, debugging, and failure analysis.
• Experience integrating LLMs, AI models, or ML services into production systems.
• Strong API and systems-integration skills.
• Ability to make pragmatic architecture decisions and take ownership from design through production.
• Comfortable operating in an early-stage, zero-to-one environment.

Strong Plus

Experience with any of the following would be especially valuable:

• Fintech, lending, credit, or risk systems
• Partner-facing API development
• API versioning and authentication
• OAuth2 or mTLS
• Signed webhooks
• Idempotent API design
• Quotas and rate limiting
• OpenAPI
• Row-level security and multi-tenant architectures
• AI/ML inference or orchestration systems
• High-reliability decision systems
• Spanish or experience building products for the Mexican/LATAM market
